Accounting/Finance/Payroll and More

  • Support Kansas City: Reliable, affordable, fractional back-office help for nonprofits. Since 2001, this Kansas City-based nonprofit has provided accounting and financial management, payroll and HR, database management, grant writing and fund development, and governance and strategic planning support, so organizations without in-house staff or expertise can stay focused on their missions.

Board Recruitment & Management

  • OnBoard KC: A free nonprofit board matchmaking resource. Volunteers create a profile and browse board seats, committee memberships, and other leadership roles, while organizations post openings and invite mission-aligned candidates to apply. Personalized board placement and recruitment consulting are also available.

Capacity Assessment

  • Core Capacity Assessment Tool (CCAT): The leading, research-backed assessment for nonprofits. Over 9,000 organizations have used it to measure effectiveness and guide capacity building. The survey provides valuable insights, but the real transformation happens in the 90-minute interpretation session. As a Certified CCAT Facilitator, I help your team move from data to action by interpreting results, mobilizing resources, and identifying concrete next steps to strengthen capacity and amplify impact.

Fiscal Sponsorship

  • Community Capital Fund: A community development nonprofit that provides fiscal sponsorship services to mission-driven projects in Greater Kansas City. It offers two models: full-support sponsorship, where a project operates under CCF's 501(c)(3) and shares its finance, HR, and legal systems, and a lighter pre-grant model for projects that keep their own legal identity. Projects must align with CCF's community development mission. CCF has also offered a Nonprofit Founders Bootcamp for Black and brown nonprofit founders.

Fundraising & Grant Consultants

  • Courtney Forkum, The Philanthropy Place: Works alongside nonprofit teams to build sustainable fundraising strategies, streamline development operations, and develop confident fundraising leaders through hands-on coaching and practical toolkits. My go-to for practical, actionable multi-year fundraising growth plans and capital campaign advising.
  • Danica Cherry, ELC Grant Solutions: A Kansas City-area grant consultant offering grant prospecting, funding strategy, proposal development, and grant management.
  • Tara Adler, Rooted Giving Co.: Fractional expert-level fundraising support and strategic guidance, including fundraising strategy and planning, donor cultivation and stewardship, campaign development, grant strategy and writing, and executive coaching.
  • Audra Clark, Audra Clark Consulting: Fundraising coach who helps nonprofit leaders, especially those who never set out to be fundraisers, build the skills and confidence to raise money for their missions.

Learning, Training & Networking

  • Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership (UMKC): Free and low-cost programming on nonprofit best practices, including a regularly offered free program on the essential planning and legal requirements for starting a nonprofit. Housed in UMKC's Henry W. Bloch School of Management since 1991, MCNL supports leaders across Kansas City and the surrounding region, with a special commitment to small and mid-sized organizations.
  • Nonprofit Connect: Think of it as the chamber of commerce for Kansas City-area nonprofits. For nearly 50 years, Nonprofit Connect has linked local nonprofits to education, resources, and networking. Members can tap professional development programs, a library of nonprofit management resources, a regional nonprofit job board, and plenty of opportunities to connect with peers.
  • The Management Center: Free online resources on management and nonprofit business practices. The Management Center helps social justice leaders build equitable, sustainable, and results-driven organizations. Alongside its paid coaching and manager trainings, it offers a free online library of management tools and a free monthly newsletter.

Technology

  • TechSoup: A go-to source for free and discounted nonprofit technology products. It works with more than 100 technology partners to offer eligible nonprofits donated and discounted software, hardware, and services, from Microsoft and Google business tools to CRMs and fundraising platforms. Basic membership is free. Many providers also use TechSoup to verify nonprofit eligibility, so getting validated there can unlock discounts elsewhere.
